This is a review file for the "3 Sisters" (3SIS) adult anime game from JAST.
JAST has released this game in both Japanese and English (using JAST-USA and
Sakura Soft), but aside from the language they appear to be the same. The
English version is available from JAST-USA (http://www.jastusa.com) and other
H anime game distributors. Sakura Soft (www.sakurasoft.com) is no more.
This was the first JAST game translated to English. The Japanese version was
in DOS with the PMDIBM sound driver, and the English one has trouble running
under Windows because of that. Assuming you have a legal copy on CD, there are
a hint text file (use the walkthrough too to save time) and two other text
files explaining how to play the game and pronounce the names. Also 26
censored GIF images from this game, Season of the Sakura, and Runaway City. My
mini-review of the game is below.
A quick look at the story (thanks to Li Sun):
Ten years ago, the main character's (a high school boy) father suicided
because of business problems apparently caused by a rival. His mother died
soon afterward, he and his older brother were separated. Now, his brother is
back, rich, and wants revenge on the man and his 3 daughters that were the
cause of above. His brother started by moving him next door to the 3 sisters'
house, and they've been gathering information that is causing the father's
ruin. But now there's a small problem. The boy loves the middle sister and
they all love him, and the father has gone missing. While deciding what to do,
the boy helps out his teacher, school nurse, 4 other school girls, a few
others he meets, and maybe even all of the other sisters, before getting the
one he's supposed to be in love with. That's while trying to find out what his
brother is up to, where the girls' father is, and getting closer with the 3
sisters. Hmm, he might have to fight his brother if this keeps up...
There is a walkthrough written by Kevin Lucas provided on my website
(http:/www.geocities.com/hentaihelper/) as 3SISWALK.TXT. I haven't checked it
for accuracy, but it looks pretty good. I only played this game several years
ago when it first came out, and the lack of a photoshop kept me from putting
up a file about the game for a long time.
There is no photoshop provided in the game. That's the one major complaint
that I have about all the JAST products I've seen so far. One way I thought of
to have one is to write your own .OVL files to display the pictures, and then
patch a saved game to jump to the start of your hacked photoshop.
It turns out that's exactly what somebody has done, even before I'd released
this file or any of the others referring to the process! Thanks to Bowlingman
(bowlingman[AT}gmx{DOT)net) for going to all the trouble of creating an
initial try at a photoshop and jukebox! I'm going to provide the file on my
website (http:/www.geocities.com/hentaihelper/) as 3SISTERSCG.ZIP.
To make this work, copy the entire game CD (including the 400 Mb PAIN.DAT) to
your hard drive. If you've played 3 Sister's Story before, find the
SSSDATA1.000 file, and rename it. Then unzip the SSSDATA1.000 in this ZIP file
to your C:\WINDOWS\TEMP directory (or wherever you have Windows installed).
Now unzip all the .OVL files to the 3SIS\OVL directory on your hard drive.
Now start the 3 Sisters game, and load the first saved game. You will have
choices of Pictures, Backgrounds, or Animations. If you get strange colors on
the animations when you pick them later, reboot your computer and try viewing
the animations first. Right click at the 3 choices to get the game's normal
save/load/quit choices.
Not a bad first effort in bringing an H game to the USA, but they should have
insisted on adding a photoshop (which is possible) and music jukebox to the
English release. A little bit of replay value, but this is a pretty linear
multiple-choice adventure. Graphics are reasonable but not enough to really
impress me. Buy it if you haven't already, just to keep the English
translations coming! There are much better games out there now (May Club, or
even Knights of Xentar), but this isn't bad as multiple-choice linear
adventure games go.
